PROJECT OBJECTIVE
• To demonstrate knowledge and practice in the process of producing a schematic design proposal for multiple functions and multi-storey building (3 storey).
• To understand the cultural context of the site and the user in producing a comprehensive building that respects the local community
• To translate design concepts and themes into a functional space, layout, and facade.
• To apply the understanding of the architectural design elements and principles with the appropriate use of forms and clear structural grid approaches to optimize space functions;
• To enhance student’s ability to critically analyzing the common issues of public building design, especially in terms of overall site planning, the end-user needs, and the possible effects of the development to its surrounding;
• To establish a positive relationship between the proposed design to the existing surrounding environment and other structures to the site;
• To understand the integration between horizontal & vertical circulations;
• To intelligently decide on construction and detailing which reflects the integration of environmentally friendly structures, materials, and services most appropriate for multiple functions and double-layer building with post & beams and short to medium span structures;
• To apply passive approaches for environmental comfort and energy efficiency by maximizing the utilization of natural ventilation, daylighting, solar shading, vegetation, etc.;
• To apply appropriate water supply and plumbing system with complimentary use of rainwater harvesting strategy
• To apply the Universal Design approach for all group of users’ accessibilities
• To develop skills and techniques in manual architectural graphic presentation, using computer-aided
TASK 1 : SITE ANALYSIS (GROUPWORK)
LAND & AUTHORITY PARAMETERS
• Site boundary establishment, topography, soil & environment.
• Prepare scaled ACAD plan of the site (with clear boundaries) and its cross-sectional drawing.
• Obtain Certified Plan (CP Plan) from MBPP and summaries relevant planning & development guidelines (setback//GBI/Ventilation/Lighting etc)
• Propose suitable ingress-egress into the site.
• Propose suitable building footprint (by considering the setback) – refer to UBBL.
SITE ANALYSIS
• Site location feasibility studies and history of the site and its adjacent areas
• Analyzed the site surrounding e.g. socio-cultural context, facilities & infrastructures, services available, pedestrian & vehicular circulation, connectivity, linkages and existing building structure nearby, trees/vegetation (info, sketches & photographs)
• Study of the building height amongst the building surrounding the site.

TASK 2 : RESEARCH AND PRECEDENT STUDIES (INDIVIDUAL)
LITERATURE RESEARCH
• Conduct research and summarize the information related to community service building, place of gathering, social interaction space, sense of place, cultural and environmental empathy.
• Social/community facilities: Design standards and guidelines
LITERATURE RESEARCH
• Carry out at least 2 precedent studies on community/civic building (local/regional & international)
• Analysed the concept, layout, elevations, & section for each of the chosen precedent studies.
• Propose detailed schedule of accommodation (SOA)

TASK 3 : DESIGN PROPOSAL (INDIVIDUAL)
Presentation drawings should be composed into SIX (6) A1 presentation boards, in landscape orientation and must comprising the item below:
• Key Plan (NTS)
• Location Plan (NTS)
• Conceptual Ideas (Design statement related theoretical approach/philosophy/concept, conceptual sketches, idea & explanation, local cultural element study, bubble diagram related to proposed SOA)
• Site Plan - with roof plan (1:500) – to include neighbouring site context.
• All Floor Plan - with furniture & fixtures arrangement (1:100 to 1:200) – to include site context. • 4 x Elevations - to include site context (1:100 to 1:200) – to include site context.
• 2 x Section (1:100 to 1:200)
• 2 x Foundation to Roof Details (1:20)
• 1 x Main perspective (overall design with site context and main activities)
• Minimum of 4 Interior Perspectives
• Minimum of 4 Exterior Perspectives
• 1 x Sectional Perspective (to show passive design approach) (NTS) – to include site context. +
• 1 pdf file of design progress compilation (sketches, images of 3D modelling, images of study model, etc)
